What kind of a worker are you?

The church is a place where there can be found lots of workers. They all work for their own reasons. There are many jobs that must be done to prepare for the harvest. If you watch the workers in a church, or even in your family or any social gathering you will find there different types of workers. What kinds of a worker are you and how can you better aid those who are preparing for the harvest? Matthew 9:37-38

The instruction from Jesus to His disciples is to go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19). Jesus tells His disciples that He has sowed good seeds and they are the children of the kingdom; the devil sows children of the wicked one. The children of the wicked one and the children of the kingdom grow together until it is time to bring in the harvest. The children of the wicked one shall be burned in the fire. The righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. (Matthew 13:30-43).

The church is a place where there can be found lots of workers. They all work for their own reasons. If you watch the workers in a church, or even in your family or any social gathering you will find there different types of workers. You will notice there is a person who is doing all the work, the “servers”; see how quiet they move around skirting the attention? Notice the “planner” who they know everything that is supposed to happen at this gathering, very vociferous and very much in charge. Notice the one sitting back watching all this occurring around them we will call this person the “watcher”. Not one finger is being lifted not one simple word of encouragement happening. This can be one of the biggest causes of dissension inside the church. Get a hold of these three characteristics and modify them a little and you can have greater workers for the Kingdom of God or any type of gathering.

The Servers:

One who does the actual work without even expecting a simple word of praise or thanks. It doesn’t come into consideration how tired that person is, what reward they will get out of their deed, who will notice or even the amount of work they are carrying. There is a service to perform and that service is carried out by the “Servers”. This is the person who is giving out of love for the good of the gathering.

These workers need help in accomplishing what needs to be done. We just have to make sure these people are doing what is best for the group and not what is best for the server. Burn out is also the biggest problem that faces the “server”. It can happen without any warning and without any symptoms. The churches, family or social should cherish what they have and appreciate their nature of giving for the gathering.

The Planner:

Oh, the breathless hurrying to draw attention to their own accomplishments. This group of people is only interested in the praises and thanks. They look for the largest crowd and there you will find the planner orchestrating the duties at hand. They can be identified by listening for the loudest voice. There you will find the planner, tooting their accomplishments to anyone who will listen with awe and gratitude. They do work for the cause of the gathering, however, not for the good of the gathering but for the good of the “self”. This is also giving out of love for the love of self and what the gathering can give them in return.

These people need to be watched for any signs of planning dissension among the gathering. Sometimes these people are just lonely and have no place in the gathering. Finding them a real job they can call their own can be of benefit for the gathering. Being a Sunday school teacher, or preparing a special food, or even reading for the gathering can keep dissension away.

The Watcher:

The one who sits back and usually has a real eye for perfection. They may offer suggestions on how to improve the gathering, but chances are they are only making excuses why they are sitting back watching. These people are the most uncaring of all. The do not care for the gatherings nor do they care for the betterment of self. They just sit back and watch void of anything. Not capable of giving anything. They hold it all very close to themselves, a deeper degree of selfishness that is so selfish they don’t even share with others.

There is a place for the watchers. They usually have ideas for flawlessness in any kind of work that needs to be done. They criticize every step that is taken and they point out every imperfection in what is being done. They have no direction and on ideas of their own. This means they would never step up to be a worker. All they do is criticize and point out defectiveness. They do not have a clue as to what is need by the gathering but they do know where the failure could occur.

If these watches could be harnessed to accomplishing any kind of work for the gathering they would be great at making sure the job would be accomplished to the highest quality. It would take time to find their passion and then approach them to perform the task that would benefit the gathering as a whole. Gentle guidance works wonders for this type of person.

Time for contemplation:

We have established there are three types of workers; the servers, the planners, and the watchers. They all have a role to play in any gathering especially for it betterment of the kingdom of God. It is important to establish their motives so dissension does not occur in the gathering and great works can be accomplished.

There are so few workers for the Kingdom of God we, as the body of Christ, must do something to assist in accomplishing the Will of the Father. When we take this principle and apply it to the Kingdom of God we can better understand what Jesus is saying to His disciples in Matthew 9:37-38 and Luke 10:2.

There is much work that has to be done, yet where are the workers? Who are the ones out there who are trying to prepare for the harvest and who are the ones who are causing the dissension inside the churches and preventing the preparation for the harvest? Who are the real workers and how might we assist them in their preparation? All interesting questions now we must aid in finding the answers. My question to you is what kind of a worker are you; the Server, Planner or the Watcher? Are you accomplishing what need to be done or are you serving your own self, not the service our Lord Jesus Christ expect us to be giving?

“Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 13: 36-43).

“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Matthew9: 37-38).
